Sevens Tournament 2010On Friday 6 August 2010 the Club participated in the annual Seven-a-side rugby tournament hosted by Young Peoples RFC. Unfortunately we did not do too well as we were defeated by Peoples in the first round and then in the runners up section we were beaten by Albions.
It would seem as if our guys still have a faur bit of work to do in honing there sevens skills to really become competitive in this format of the game. PrayersWe would like to ask all members and supporters to please remember all our members who are ill at home or in hospital in their prayers. People we know of are both our presidents, Miester Joey Kulsen and Auntie Nella Plaatjies, as well as loyal supporter, Aunti Sannie. If you know of any other members or supporters who are ill, please drop us a mail at paarlrangers@gmail.com.

The Dark 2011 SeasonOn Friday 7 October 2011 our season will finally come to an end when we honour the players and members who stood out this year.
Unlike in previous years this year was a particularly difficult one for various reasons. The biggest of which was the fact that our head coach made the decision to leave the club for another club and several players showed their loyalty to him by leaving with him. The end result of all this was that we had to start building our teams from scrath. Besides this the team moral was really low as many players were faced with the dilema of choosing between a Club for whom they had played for so many years and a coach to whom they had been loyal for the previous very succesful season. The outcome of all this was that you had players that attended practices irregularly and some that did not pitch on match days. Many a Saturday we had to scrath together teams just to honour our obligation with the opposing teams. As the season progressed and you could identify who your real loyalist were, the coaching staff could realy start piecing together the pieces left behind after the defection. Slowly but surely the team could also start building momentum and even though we could only win two matches and draw one, we at least had a group of loyal players that we can look to to try and resurrect the Club. Out of all this turmoil, the trails and turbulations, one positive thing emerged and that was that the Captain of our ship, our Chairman, Eugene Andries never once faltered. He still kept the management together and kept on working, at times behind the scenes, to keep our ship afloat. Many a lesser man would have thrown in the towel and jump ship. To him and all the loyal players and supporters that stood by us during this season we say a heartfelt THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND LOYALTY. 2012 season kicks offThe 2012 rugby season kicked of this weekend (14 April 2012) and even though we did not manage to win this first encounter against Violets Cape Town, there were a lot of revelations. First and foremost our players showed a complete lack of urgency and by the time they realised they had to step up, our opponents had amased a considerable lead. playing catch up in rugby is a very daunting task and if you do not show a willingness to put your body on the line for your team, you can forget about the sweet taste of victory. However, this was just the beginning nd a long eason still lies ahead. If everybody just pull together, we can certainly turn this minor set back around. Keep it up guys!
Remembering the fallen: 17 June 2012![]() On 11 June 1972 a touring party from Mount Pleasant Rugby Club, today known as Atlantics RFC, Hermanus/Hawston, visited Paarl Rangers. On their way back home, tragedy struck as the bus, with all its passengers left the road near Villiersdorp and landed in the raging river. All 47 passengers succumbed on that tragic rainy day in June. Only the captain of the 1972 team, Japie Seconda, survived and only because he was called backed to work before the bus departed from Paarl. In a moving tribute he paid respect to everybody who died that day and rightfully aknowledged that some of those players would definetely also have gone on to play for the Springboks.
On Sunday 17 June 2012, 40 years after the accident, a moving Church service was held in Mount Pleasant to remember the fallen. A delegation from Paarl Rangers attended the ceremony and also paid the Club's respect by laying a wreath at the grave site. |
LOTTO FundingOur Club submitted a request for funding to the National Lotteries Board and we were fortunate in securing a R50 000 donation. these funds will be utilised to buy new equipment and playing gear and we aim to finalise everything before the start of the 2012 rugby season. Thanks to everyone involved in the process, especially Jonita Jones who prepared the application so diligently.
